The authors experienced one case of peripheral cholangiocarcinoma with central abscess. CT and ultrasounddemonstrate a well defined fluid collection with smooth wall in central portion of mass in left hepatic lobe.Needle aspiration revealed 150ml of pus with chocolate color. Follow-up ultrasound 2 weeks after antibioticstherapy showed fluid collection again. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed from a surrounding solidportion of a fluid collection area, and pathologic diagnosis was adenocarcinoma. In case of recurrent abscess ornecrosis, we recommend fine needle aspiration biopsy from a central fluid collection area as well as surroundingsolid portion of mass for the possibility of central abscess in peripheral cholangiocarcinoma of the liver. |
