| Intraoperative neurosonography has become a useful adjunct in many neurosurgical procedures. Sonographicfindings of twenty six intracranial lesions were reviewed and compred with CT or MRI findings. They weremeningiomas (4), arteriovenous malformations (4), neurocysticercosis (4), low-grade astrocytomas (2),oligodendrogliomas (2), lymphomas (2), hemangioblastomas (2) and others (6). Accuracy, sensitivity and specificityof the surrounding brain eema on the sonography were 73%(19/26), 71%(12.17) and 73%(7/9) respectively. It wasusually more hyperechoic than that of normal white matter (9/12). The authors conclude that characterization ofbrain edema by sonography is useful in mapping the true extent of brain lesions. |
