| Extraadrenal retoperitoneal paraganglioma is arising from neural crest cells, which are structurally identicalto chromaffin cells in adrenal medulla and are distributed in sympathetic ganglia along the aorta. The most commonlocation is infrarenal, in the organ of Zuckerkandl around the aorta from the origin of inferior mesenteric arteryto aortic bifurcation. Radiologically, paraganglioma is a large, well demarcated, lobulated, solid mass containingmultiple hemorrhagic necrosis. Alghough the differentiation from other neural or mesodermal origin retroperitonealtumor is difficult, the appearance of hypervascular mass mear the abdominal aorta could be an important diagnosticsuggestion. |
