The authors reviewed ultrasound findings of nine kidneys with huge angiomyolipoma (AML) from 6 patients (5women, 1 man). Lesions were bilateral in 3 patients and unilateral in 3. Five patients underwent surgery and onepatients had a tuberous sclerosis. All lesions were more than 15cm in diameter, but combined daughter lesions wereless than 1cm. Echogenicity of tumors were homogenously hyperechoic in 2 lesions, homogenously hyperechoic withmixed pattern in 1 and mixed in 6 from 3 bilateral patients. Intra-renal daughter lesions were homogenouslyhyperechoic. Other combined findings were pulsating turbulance within mixed pattern mass suggesting aneurysm,hydropelvis and hepatic lipoma. perirenal lymph node enlargement was seen in 1 case. ultrasound demonstration offat component is essential for accurate diagnosis of renal AML. |
