(Edema of the ampulla of Vater simulating carcinoma)

Stones in the distal common bile duct or passed stones through the ampulla of Vater may cause edema of theampulla of Vater and radiologically this may simulte carcinoma. We report two cases of recurrent pyogeniccholangitis with stones in the distal common bile duct revealing a mass at the ampulla of Vater produced by edemaon sonography, which was misinterpreted as carcinoma.
