| Sonographic findings of 15 cases of portal vein thrombosis in liver cirrhosis were analysed to evaluate thecharacteristic findings and differential points with thrombosis in hepatocellular carcinoma. The distribution ofthrombosis was localized to extrahepatic portal vein in 7 cases. When intrahepatic portal branches were involved,it was more predilected to left side. Sonographic findings were eccentrically located thrombus in mildly dilatedportal vein with partial obstruction of the lumen. Multiple noncontinuous partial thrombus was observed in 5cases. The changing pattern of thrombus by time was variable. Alghough portal vein thrombosis is not a commoncomplication in liver cirrhosis, our results suggest that characteristic findings on sonography are helpful indifferentiating from thrombus associated with hepatocelluar carcinoma and in the management of the patient. |
