ultrasonographic findings of cervical lymphadenopathy
Jae Duk Ryoo, M.D.,
An assessment was maded of the sonographic characteristics of cervical lymphadenopathy in terms of size, echogenicity, margin and the obliteration of adjacent fat plane. The patients consisted of eleven cases of metastasis, nine cases of tuberculosis, seven cases of inflammation, Two cases of lymphomaone case of fungus infection and one case of leukemia. The lymphnodes in metastatic tumors were generally large, over 4cm, hyperechoic, lobulated and the fat plane was obliterated. The lymphnodes in tuberculous lymphadenitis were generally small, under 4cm, echopoor, and smooth. The lymphnodes in inflammatory lymphadenopathy were generally heterogeneously echogenic with internal septi, and lobulated. We concluded that the above findings are helpful in the differential diagnosis of cervical lymphadenopathy.
