To assess the value of transvaginal sonography, the findings of 55 patients who underwernt transabdominal and transvaginal sonography were compared in terms of image quality and diagnostic information. Transvaginal sonograpy obtained a better image in 56%, was equal in 40% and worse in 4%. In terms of diagnostic information, the transvaginal sonogram was better in 27%, remained equal in 69% and was worse in 4%. We suggest that transvaginal sonography has considerable advantages over conventional transabdominal sonography in the evaluation of pelvic lesions in the female. |
