The invasiveness and sampling errors of liver biopsies have prompted the development
of diverse non-invasive methods for evaluating liver stiffness. Recently, shear
wave-based ultrasound elastography, such as transient elastography (TE), acoustic
radiation force impulse (ARFI) imaging and supersonic shear imaging (SSI), as well
as quasi-static elastography, such as real-time tissue elastography, have been introduced
as noninvasive techniques for evaluating liver stiffness. This editorial reviews
each elastographic technique in terms of the principle and clinical applications for the
liver diseases. |
