Normal Variants and Pitfalls in Neonatal Neurosonography

Sonography has been known to be very useful to detect the disease of the brain in newborn infant. However, It is very important to differentiate between normal findings and normal variants or pitfalls seen on sonographic examination. Authorts have reviewed various normal variants and pitfalls in brain sonography which have provided profitable information clinically. This pictorial essay includes echogenic pseudolesion, premature brain minicking lissencephaly, calcar avis, periventricular echogenic halo, various patterns of lateral ventricles, shape of the choroid plexus, choroidal cyst, measurement of the subarachnoid space, septal vein, cavum septi pellucidi, cisterna magna and mechanical artifacts.
